Making Friends On The Hike To The Top Of Cathedral Rock
It was a beautiful sunny day as we set out to hike Cathedral Rock. It is one of the most popular trails in Sedona, Arizona. Neither of us had never hiked it before, but we had heard that the views from the top were incredible. As we began the ascent, I quickly realized that this was not going to be an easy hike like some of our others (see about some of our urban hikes). But we were determined to reach the top.
About halfway up, we stopped to take a break and catch my breath. There was a sign that indicated we were at the end of the trail. As we sat there resting, another group came walking down the trail. We got to talking, and it turns out they were from out of town but this was not their first time hiking Cathedral Rock. We also learned that one of them is also an adventure blogger. You can follow him here. We chatted for a few minutes about the hike and how beautiful Sedona was. Paige and I were about to turn around and head back to the car when they told us they knew how to get to the top. They invited us along and I am so glad we went with them.
It always makes my day when I get to meet new people while I’m out hiking, especially when we can encourage each other to reach our goals. There’s something special about being able to share in those moments of accomplishment with someone else, especially when you’ve just met. Hiking is such a great way to meet new friends who share your love of nature and spending time outdoors.
Even if you don’t end up making any new friends on the trail, there’s still something incredibly rewarding about pushing yourself physically and mentally to reach the summit of a difficult hike. It’s a great way to get some exercise and clear your mind all at the same time. And when you finally reach the top and get to enjoy those stunning views, it’ll all be worth it!
