City Market
Three blocks after crossing Massachusetts Ave (Mass Ave to the locals) is the City Market. Originally a farmer’s market, it is now a food court and then some. Besides being able to get a bite to eat, you can also grab a beer and even a haircut in a retro barbershop. While walking around the Market, our activities intrigued a security guard. When he asked about the cameras, we told him about our blog. After that, he asked, “Do you guys want to see the Catacombs?” There was only one response we could have had. “Absolutely!”
Excitedly, we followed him down to the Catacombs. On the way, we were educated on some of its history. There wasn’t anything fascinating. It was essentially used to transport goods into the market and store ice before refrigeration. I have been wanting to check out the Catacombs for quite some time. A friend of mine who is into abandoned buildings and forgotten locations told me about them. I must admit, while excited that I was finally getting the opportunity to see them first hand, they weren’t as spooky as I had worked them up to be. Still, it was very cool to finally be experiencing them in person. Be sure to check out the pictures we took in the slideshow above. It was the highlight of our adventure.
