White River State Park
Once we had seen enough of the circle, we started to walk to White River State Park. There are quite a few things to do there. Aside from all the art pieces, the start of the Canal Walk Trail is there as well. Also, there is the NCAA Hall of Champions, the Eiteljorg Museum, the Indiana State Museum, and the Indianapolis Zoo is just a short walk across the river via a pedestrian bridge.
Continuing in a counterclockwise direction, the trail passes the Indiana State Museum and crosses the canal. The museum has lots of details and art on the outside of the building. There are statues and some carvings in the building’s stone. There is also a steam clock that is interesting to check out. This is also a good place for a restroom break. The restrooms can be accessed through the door by the clock without paying for admission. There will be a trip back to tour the museum in the future.
The Lifeblood of Urban Exploration, Coffee
After walking past some residential areas, it was time to find some coffee and warm up a bit. We found a coffee shop a little more than a quarter-mile off the trail. It added more than half a mile to our total walk, but there isn’t much the two of us won’t do for coffee. The line was long and the shop was crowded. This was not a huge deal because it gave us more time to warm up from the chilly January weather.
We finally received our coffee order, and it was well worth the wait. There is no greater pick-me-up than an expertly crafted beverage from the baristas. It was then time to make our way back to the trail to continue our urban exploration. In about 10 minutes, we were back on track.
